Why membership matters?
If I attend church regularly then why should I become a member?
For the person who has chosen to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, membership in a local church is important for three essential reasons?
It is Biblical!
Collective and corporate worship is a vital part of spiritual life (Hebrews 10:24). Therefore a commitment to a local body of like-minded believers will ensure three benefits in your walk with Christ: 1) Your personal spiritual growth and the fulfillment of your Christian responsibility (Eph. 4:11-15); 2) Your personal accountability (Gal. 6:1-2); and 3) Your Christian productivity (I Cor. 12:1-31).
It is Theological!
The New Testament affirms that when a person makes a personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ he is "baptized into one body" (1 Cor. 12:13). This figurative expression affirms that to be a Christian is to be an active member of Christ's church. It is in the context of a local body (church) of believers that you exercise your spiritual gift, you receive biblical instruction, and you actively join with others to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20).
It is Practical!
Your commitment to membership in a local church provides many practical benefits for you, your family, and your extended church family. Some of these benefits include: 1) The ability for us all to do more together than we could ever possibly do alone; 2) The confidence in knowing that you have found a place where you can meet new friends and develop meaningful relationships; and 3) The peace and assurance of having like-minded friends who will hold you accountable in your weaknesses, encourage you in your disappointments, and rejoice with you in your victories.
Have you ever wondered what you must do to become a Christian or what you must do to be saved? The Bible has an answer that is easy to understand.
FIRST, You Must Understand You Need to Be Saved. The Bible says you need to be saved because you are a sinner. Your sin has a penalty. You cannot save yourself. The Bible says, "all have sinned," and "the wages of sin is death." (Romans 3:23, 6:23.)
SECOND, You Must Understand You Can Be Saved. You can be saved because Christ died on the cross for your sins. The bible says, "God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us". (Romans 5:8)
THIRD, You Must Understand What You Need To Do To Be Saved. The Bible says how you can be saved. Acts 3:19 says we must repent and turn away from our sins. But repentance alone is not enough. Ephesians 2:8 says that we must place our faith in Jesus Christ to be saved.
NOW, You Must Act If You Want To Be Saved. God is waiting for you to "want to" and to ask Him to save you. The Bible says, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". (Romans 10:13). If you are ready to trust Christ as your Savior and Lord, invite Christ into your heart right now by praying to Him. You may word your prayer or use the prayer printed here. The important thing is that the prayer is sincere and personal.
"Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know you died for my sins. Right now I invite you into my heart to be my Savior and Lord. I willingly turn from my sin and give my life to you. Thank you for saving me, Amen."
Welcome to God's family. You have just made the greatest decision of your life. Tell a pastor or another Christian friend about your decision as soon as possible.
